Have you noticed your pet's fur turning silver as he is moving into his golden years? Other changes could be occurring too, some not as noticeable. As your pet ages we recommend a veterinary physical exam at least twice a year to make sure they are staying in tip-top shape. We also recommend performing diagnostics such as ultrasounds, echocardiograms, radiographs, and bloodwork at least yearly, as there are only so many things our veterinarians are able to "see" on a physical exam. Catching disease early could make a huge difference in the quality of life for your older pet. During May we will focus on two major diagnostic areas: ultrasounds and radiographs. An ultrasound isn't just for looking for babies anymore, we also examine a pet's internal organs, including the liver, gall bladder, spleen, and kidneys. With thoracic radiographs we can measure your pet's heart size and examine the lungs for disease. An echocardiogram gives us valuable information about the heart function. In May we will take $50 off the cost of a thoracic radiograph study OR an abdominal ultrasound OR an echocardiogram. Your pet has loved you for so long, let's help him continue to have his healthiest year ever.

When it becomes worn, raw bone surfaces become exposed and rub together. DJD is the result, causing pain and lack of joint mobility. DJD can occur over a lifetime of wear or as a result of injury.
